Was Chivalry Ever Alive? Captain, Crew, and Males Most Likely to Survive Shipwrecks

I haven’t yet decided whether I’m surprised by this fact: crew members, captains, and male passengers have the highest rate of survival in sinking ships, as indicated by shipwreck data.

This implies ethics, courtesy, and – of course – chivalry go out of the window in times of an emergency. Everyman for himself. Probably not what Pixar has lead us to believe all of these years.

Selfishness or a demonstration of the self-preservation mechanism?

And chivalry, did it ever exist?
